Choosing Yourself Every Single Day

By Kishan Kumar Gullaiya  ·  6 min read  ·  Purpose & Identity

You've been waiting. Maybe for a long time.

Waiting to be noticed. Waiting to be picked. Waiting for someone — a boss, a partner, a mentor, an opportunity — to look at you and say: You. I choose you.

And while you wait, life is passing. Days becoming months. Months becoming years.

Here's what I want to tell you today: Stop waiting to be chosen. Choose yourself.

"The most powerful decision you will ever make is to be on your own side — unconditionally and without waiting for permission."

Why We Wait to Be Chosen

From the very beginning, we are trained to seek external validation. Grades told us if we were smart. Teachers told us if we were talented. Parents told us if we were good. Friends told us if we belonged.

We learned that our worth comes from outside — that we need to be chosen, selected, approved before we can feel okay about ourselves.

So we perform. We shrink. We adjust ourselves to fit what we think others want. We put our dreams on hold until someone gives us a green light.

But that green light never comes. Because the only person who can truly choose you — is you.

What "Choosing Yourself" Actually Looks Like

This is not about arrogance. It's not about thinking you're better than everyone else. Choosing yourself is much quieter than that.

Choosing Yourself Looks Like:

✦ Starting the project even without an audience

✦ Setting a boundary even when it disappoints someone

✦ Working on your dream at 11pm after a full day of everything else

✦ Saying no to what drains you, yes to what grows you

✦ Believing in your idea before anyone else does

The Daily Practice of Ownership

Choosing yourself isn't a one-time decision. It's a daily practice. A muscle. And like any muscle, it gets stronger every time you use it.

Morning: Set Your Intention

Every morning, before the world pours into your head — take 5 minutes. Ask yourself: What would a person who chooses themselves do today? Write one answer. Do that thing.

During the Day: Notice When You Abandon Yourself

Pay attention to the moments when you shrink. When you say yes and mean no. When you stay quiet and wish you had spoken. When you hide your idea because you're afraid of judgment.

Each of those is a moment of not choosing yourself. And each of them has a cost.

Evening: Review and Recommit

At the end of the day, ask: Did I show up for myself today? Not perfectly — just honestly. If you didn't, that's okay. Tomorrow is another chance.

"You don't have to have it all figured out. You just have to keep choosing yourself even when you're unsure."

What Happens When You Start Choosing Yourself

The first thing that happens is discomfort. People around you will notice you've changed. Some will be confused. Some will be threatened. Some will try to pull you back.

This is normal. It's the price of growth.

But then something beautiful starts to happen. You stop needing as much external validation. Your self-worth becomes internal — solid, stable, yours. You start taking action without waiting for permission.

And slowly, the life you actually want starts to take shape. Not because luck changed. But because you did.

The Connection to the Ownership Mindset

Choosing yourself every day is the foundation of the ownership mindset. When you own your choices, your time, your actions — you become the author of your life instead of just a character in someone else's story.

This is exactly what I explore in "The Owner: I Choose You." The title itself is this message — I choose you — but it's not someone else saying it to you. It's you, saying it to yourself.

The book takes you through the complete journey of becoming someone who chooses themselves — consistently, powerfully, and without apology.

It's Time to Choose Yourself

You found this blog for a reason. That reason is telling you something. The complete system for becoming the owner of your life is waiting for you.
